Tenth Circuit Solicitor Chrissy Adams soundly defeated challenger Sarah Drawdy on Tuesday during the South Carolina Republican Primary.
With all 31 precincts reporting in Oconee County, Adams, a first-term solicitor, received 5,584 votes, or 68 percent, compared to Drawdy’s 2,628 votes, or 32 percent.
In Anderson County, with 79 of 81 precincts reporting, Adams had 11,596 votes, or 53.25 percent. Drawdy, an attorney, had 10,181 votes, or 46.75 percent.
The tenth judicial circuit includes both counties.
Drawdy called Adams around 9:30 p.m. to offer a concession.
“She ran a great race, and I wanted to call and congratulate her,” Drawdy said Tuesday night. “Now I am thanking all my supporters. Without their help, I wouldn’t have gotten this far.”
Drawdy said her race was a “grassroots effort,” and despite a hard-fought campaign, she was not able to overcome Adams’ strong support in Oconee County.
“We knew it was uphill from the start,” Drawdy said. “I don’t think it ever got personal. We really touched on the issues.”
If elected, Drawdy had promised to be tougher on the prosecution of illegal immigrants and child abusers. She claimed Adams had not tried enough cases.
“I feel great,” Adams said Tuesday night. “I am very honored that voters have given their trust to me for a second term.”
Adams said she was pleased voters thought her first term was successful, despite some of Drawdy’s claims otherwise.
“(Drawdy) ran a very competitive race, but I am confident about the job we have done,” Adams said. “I thank them for allowing me to continue to do the good job we have been doing.
